The world has gone completely topsy-turvy at this point. Most of us are climbing up the walls, looking forward to that one walk a day. Some of us are, for GOD knows what reason, STILL ignoring social distancing guidelines (if this is you please stop it, k?). And then there are the rest of us, the incredibly brave and selfless people on the front line. The nurses, doctors, surgeons. The postal service and the somehow still friendly bin men, and everyone in between.
All of us are somehow connected to one of these people fighting the battle for us. And all of us should be supporting them in some way. It doesn’t need to cost money. Simply staying at home is the absolute least you can do. Children on my street have made posters for NHS workers and stuck them in their windows which I found so heart warming. If you can donate food that would go to waste to your local food bank this would be an incredible thing too!
But here are a few ways we’ve been working hard to help out how we can in our local community...
Some schools, while under lockdown for the majority of students, have kept their doors open to look after the children of key workers. We’ve been making donations to some of these schools with our mini colouring boxes, providing colouring pens, cupcakes and activities to primary school children for home learning and as prizes for hard work. We’ve also been donating cakes to our local hospital to help cheer up the staff and the patients all surrounded by so much distress right now. But this isn’t enough at all.
Why we need your help!
We’ve been delivering kids creative activity boxes to local children. Our company is a Community Interest Company which means we have legally pledged to use our profit for work to help better the lives of people in our local community.
But we’ve had to be picky! We believe strongly in the benefits of creative expression, be they social, psychological or personal development, which is why our mission is to create a stable business that can provide these outlets for anyone who seeks them. But with us having a smaller income not being able to trade at markets and with our stockists being forced to close to keep everyone safe, we can’t put as much funding into these kind of things as we’d like, and have had to restrict our delivery area and criteria for receiving the packages.
Which is why we’re asking for your help. We have set up a GoFundMe to help raise some money so we can launch a proper programme providing art therapy inspired workshops that you can follow from the comfort of your own home!
This programme will include contactless delivery of arts supplies you might need to follow the videos we’ll be posting. This money will mean we no longer have to be picky! We can provide creative supplies to everyone who needs it.
Our videos will include a whole host of activities for a variety of people. We’ll be producing content for children of different ages and abilities for both fun and learning. Workshops for adults to promote good mental-wellbeing and with exercises to relieve stress and anxiety. We also want this to be service-user lead! So if there’s something you want to see, comment, message, email!
We also pledge this GoFundMe to be completely transparent. One issue a lot of people have with charities is the uncertainty about where exactly their money is going. We will be posting regular updates on our website of our progress and including expenditure so you can see exactly where your money is going, and who it’s helping!
If you can give anything at all it would make all the difference. We’ll be providing our activity boxes for £2.00 which will be tailored to age and include supplies for a range of activities. But these boxes cost between £5 and £8 to put together, including the cost for delivery. So any donation made towards our cause will help to make our activities as accessible as possible to anyone who wants to get involved!
